Eriko Kobayashi was born in Tokyo and currently works on her art in Saitama, Japan. The subject of her painting is mainly absence and unbelongingness. For example, when immigrants or tourists stay on lands of different languages and cultures, they ought to have feelings of anxiety, floating feeling, a bit of excitement, discomfort, feeling of alienation. Many of us have the same feelings in everyday life, regardless of whether we are conscious or not. She is trying to express this complex emotion in works. She holds BA in Policy Management from Keio University, MA in Sociology from Ochanomizu University. In 2017 and 2018 she received awards in the Japanese Nature Painting Exhibition.
