BENJAMIN F WEAVER

Geometric shapes are used to obscure and create spatial tension. Elements of typical three dimensional space are left out or altered to engage the viewer. Using color and placement, the relationship between objects lead to structural movement within the painting and provides discord that the viewer seeks to resolve. These reductive elements are built within a system that is meant to be understood within the painting. They are forms in the midst of resolution.

Potential movement keeps the eye in a singular plane. If the viewer concentrates on the structure, the eye tends to resolve the elements as working together despite the color. If one focuses on the color, then the structure seems to be in opposition. This duality of interacting visual opposites is what drives this series of work.
