In December 2019, the Wuhan medical community’s attempt to warn about a new strand of coronavirus was censored by the Chinese government. Consequently, casualties drastically rose; I was in shock. Unable to use words, I turned to drawing to express my empathy for the Chinese people. The epidemic growing to a pandemic, I expanded these drawings into an ongoing series called Tears of Fire, a requiem.
In these drawings, I stage and torment the mythical East Asian Long, the auspicious dragon symbol of power, strength and which controls the water.
However, Western dragons breathe fire.
